What Is Enterprise?

The Enterprise system, launched by c-Systems in 1983, contains a core set of modules -- point of sale, inventory control, shop and warranty management and accounts receivable -- and a host of optional programs -- accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, rental, unit management and distribution.

The foundation of the Enterprise system is its ease of use, and its focus on the end user. All of its developers have real-world experience behind the counter in actual retail and distributor environments. This provides the software developers with true insight into the inner workings of power equipment and power sports businesses. This insight enables c-Systems developers the unique perspective of anticipating end-users’ needs, and, just as importantly, the ability to fulfill those needs. With a clear and complete understanding of the industry-specific business model, the Enterprise developers have an understanding of what can and should make the software more useable.

Along with usability, software should also be adaptable to future trends. No industry is static, so no industry’s software should remain static. To meet the needs of an ever-changing industry, input from dealers is always encouraged. New features and enhancements are constantly being incorporated into the Enterprise system. These improvements are so cutting-edge that other software vendors have followed c-Systems’ lead and incorporated some of the same changes within their own software. In fact, those same software vendors have gone so far as to use Enterprise’s field definitions!

It has been said, a true leader is one who leads by example. c-Systems provides the example by which other software vendors follow. It can also be said that a leader is one whose example is followed most by others. Many times, dealers have hired new employees who, as is discovered later, are already proficient users of Enterprise.

To be a proficient user of software, it is helpful if that software is easy to use and flexible. Again, c-Systems is at the forefront. Enterprise can be utilized in either a text-based or Windows-emulated mode. One person might be more comfortable operating the software via commands entered at a command prompt and another person might be more comfortable operating the software via a Windows-type interface. A third person might prefer some combination of the two, accessing some programs via a Windows-type interface and others via a text-based interface. Enterprise has the flexibility to choose the type of interface on a per-terminal, per-program basis. How many other software vendors offer a product as easy to use or flexible?

Industries are always changing. The same is true of an individual business within a specific industry. Employees come and go. Eventually, even ownership might change. Most power equipment/power sports businesses are family-run, involving moms, dads, grandparents, sons and daughters. The ease of use and flexibility of Enterprise allows for a smoother transition when the father retires and passes the business to the son. Likewise, when a new employee is hired or if a temporary employee is hired for seasonal work, Enterprise, because of its ease of use and flexibility, requires less time for software training and allows more time for actual work. Because of the Windows- and text-style interfaces, no one feels intimidated to use the software.

In short, c-Systems’ Enterprise system truly is the industry standard…often imitated, but never duplicated!
